Animals Get Better at the CROW of Sanibel Island
"Animals Get Better at the CROW of Sanibel Island"
When you vacation in a gorgeous spot like Sanibel Island, your first thought probably won’t be to visit an animal rehabilitation center. But if you don’t visit the CROW of Sanibel, you’re missing out. Whether you’re on the island for a corporate retreat or vacation, taking some time out of your day to visit the CROW will be well worth it.
CROW of Sanibel, CROW cares for native wildlife from alligators to island birds.
Saving Wildlife Since 1968
For almost 50 years, the (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) has cared for native animals with the help of countless staff, volunteers and local students. Patients range from alligators and turtles to hawks and bald eagles, including many of the animal species native to Florida and Sanibel Island. But importantly, CROW is not a zoo: the ultimate goal of the clinic is for its patients to be temporary, to be released back into the wild as soon as they’re nursed back to full health.
Visiting the CROW
As a result, visiting the CROW is a great way to learn about both the wildlife diversity of the area and care for animals. The Visitor Education Center uses several interactive exhibits to teach guests about the clinic’s history, success stories and treatment methods. Several animals are trained to be a part of the Wonders of Wildlife (WOW Lecture series), which seeks to get visitors in touch with specific species and their native habitat.
In other words, the CROW is an important part of Sanibel Island, and a great – if unconventional – spot to visit on your vacation or corporate retreat. For other ideas of spots to visit while on the island, don’t hesitate to contact us!
